THE University of Liverpool has been forced to back down on plans to force staff onto campus three days a week, the University and College Union (UCU) announced today.

More than 300 professional services staff at the university took strike action over the proposals in June and have been working to rule since.

New terms agreed following negotiations between UCU, Unite and the university include improved safety and equality protections, meaning staff now only have to spend 40 per cent of their time on campus unless they choose more.

UCU regional support official Marie Monaghan said: “The decision to relax the hybrid working plans and improve safety measures at the University of Liverpool is a victory for staff who have been supporting students for years from home and in person.

“We now look forward to jointly developing a hybrid working policy ahead of its rollout in the new year.”
