Covid-19 has led to a massive drop in income for workers and rising inequality between rich and poor countries, UN warns
THE coronavirus pandemic has led to a massive drop in income for workers around the world and rising inequality between rich and poor countries, the United Nations said today.
Global labour income plunged by $3.5 trillion in the first nine months of 2020, according to a report on the effects of the pandemic on the world of work by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The figure represents a fall of around 11 per cent from a year ago, but excludes income support provided by some governments. Lower-income countries and those in the Americas were particularly badly hit.
