Dozens of Palestinians injured in storming of holy site in occupied West Bank

DOZENS of Palestinians were injured as Israeli security forces stormed a holy site on the outskirts of Nablus in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday evening.

Clashes occurred after illegal settlers desecrated the site of Joseph’s Tomb which is venerated by Christians, Jews and Muslims.

They were brought to Nablus on several buses and were able to break into the site with the assistance of Israeli soldiers.

Rubber bullets, stun grenades and tear gas were fired by security forces, with a number of Palestinians requiring hospital treatment.

The provocations came amid renewed tensions after Israeli forces shot dead three Palestinians, including a teenager in the West Bank and Negev desert.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said 17-year-old Nader Rayan died after being shot in the head, chest and hand in an Israeli raid on Balata refugee camp in Nablus.

Some 20 Palestinian youths and children have been killed since the beginning of the year, according to the Arab League.

It has called on the United Nations to act on its resolutions and protect the Palestinian people.
