Putin suspends Russia's participation in last remaining nuclear arms control pact with US

RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin suspended Moscow’s participation in the last remaining nuclear arms control pact with the United States today.

During his State of the Nation speech, President Putin said: “I am forced to announce today that Russia is suspending its participation in the strategic offensive arms treaty.”

The New START nuclear arms reduction treaty, signed by the two countries in 2010, called for the number of strategic nuclear missile launchers to be halved.
