Thousands of Rohingya refugees forcibly transferred to remote island
Rohingya refugees travel in a naval ship to be transported to an isolated island in the Bay of Bengal, in Chittagong, Bangladesh

NEARLY 2,000 Rohingya refugees were relocated to a remote island in the Bay of Bengal by the Bangladeshi government today.

The refugees had been removed — against their will — from their camps in Cox’s Bazaar on Monday and held in temporary accommodation in Chittagong.

Some 1,804 Rohingya were put on board seven vessels in the south-eastern port city this morning, to make the trip to Bhashan Char island, which lies 21 miles from the mainland.
