UN appeals for funds to tackle locust plague in Horn of Africa
THE United Nations has appealed for $40 million (£29m) to help fight a potentially devastating second locust storm, with new swarms seen in the Horn of Africa and Yemen.
The cash is needed to boost surveillance and control in the countries most affected, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
The food security of millions is at risk from what analysts say is the biggest locust plague in seven decades, which is set to continue into the new year.
