Villagers massacred in Islamist attack in Democratic Republic of the Congo

AT LEAST 10 people were killed in an overnight raid on a village in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the country’s armed forces confirmed on Tuesday.

Authorities in the east of the country said that fighters from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an Islamist group which has expanded into the DRC from Uganda, carried out the attack on the village of Kabembeu.

“So far a provisional assessment is of about 10 people killed. It is attributed to the Islamist ADF fighters,” Beni territory deputy administrator Rosette Kavula said.
