PALESTINE: A man opened fire on an Israeli car in the occupied West Bank today, wounding three.

An adult with gunshot wounds is stable in hospital, while two girls aged nine and 14 were lightly injured by debris, the Israeli military said.

The gunman fled.

SYRIA: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani made the first prime ministerial trip to Damascus since Syria’s civil war began 12 years ago today.

They discussed trade and co-operation against terrorist groups. Idlib, in Syria’s north-west, is still in the hands of jihadist groups under Turkish protection.

HUNGARY: Thousands marched through Budapest on Saturday for the annual Pride march.

The LGBT demo took on a defiant air because of recent attacks on the community by Viktor Orban’s government, including a ban on depiction of homosexuality or gender transition to children.

Last week, a bookshop was fined 12 million forints (about £27,000) for placing an LGBT graphic novel in its youth section without covering it in plain packaging.

ROME: Pope Francis has agreed to China’s appointment of a new bishop to lead the Catholic community in Shanghai.

Vatican recognition for Bishop Shen Bin is a climbdown, as Rome previously admitted it only learnt of his appointment from media reports.

Authority over appointing bishops in China has been a bone of contention between Beijing and the Holy See.
