Glasgow shipyard workers to strike for equal pay

MORE than 30 workers at BAE Systems’ Glasgow yards are set to strike in the new year to win equal pay.

Unite members working for contractor CBL Cable voted unanimously on an 88 per cent turnout for a series of actions beginning on January 10 – which could go on until March unless a resolution is found.

The workers argue that, in defiance of the Joint Industry Board Agreement, CBL workers are consistently paid less than BAE colleagues doing equivalent tasks in Govan and Scotstoun. A £4.2 billion project to build five type-26 Royal Navy frigates is well underway at the sites.
