SOUTH SUDAN: The United Nations security council has demanded an immediate end to all fighting in the country and pushed for swift action by the government to ensure that delayed elections are held peacefully and freely in December 2024.
The council resolution, approved on Wednesday in a 13-0 vote, with Russia and China abstaining, also extended the more than 17,000-strong UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan for another year.
