The charismatic Dutchman returned for a third spell in charge of his country in 2021, coming out of retirement to do so. He led the Netherlands to Qatar, where they finished top of Group A before knocking the USA out 3-1 in the round of 16. They were 2-0 down to eventual winners Argentina in the quarter-final but hauled themselves back level only to go out on penalties.
