THE University of Liverpool must “decarbonise now” and commit to net-zero emissions by 2030, the institution’s staff and students demanded today.

A “ground-breaking green new deal claim,” drafted jointly by the local branches of the University and College Union (UCU), Unite and Unison, backed by the Liverpool Guild of Students, is needed to “avert climate catastrophe,” organisers stressed.

The unions hailed the “new approach to climate change action, with unions and students pushing for collective bargaining to transition the university to a sustainable model.”
