MORE than 100 teachers at a south-west London college face being sacked today if they do not sign “punitive” new contracts which will strip them of eight days’ holiday, their union has warned.

The University and College Union (UCU) said that bosses at Richmond upon Thames College gave the 127 educators, who are set to strike on Monday, a deadline of yesterday to respond to the fire-and-rehire threat.

Next week’s industrial action had been suspended by the union “in good faith” pending ultimately unsuccessful attempts to facilitate a resolution through conciliation service Acas, but it will now go ahead, the UCU said.
