BOLIVIAN President Luis Arce and Vice-President David Choquehanca marched today at the head of a “demonstration for democracy” showcasing support for the socialist government.
The huge mobilisation, which organisers hoped would exceed a million people, was called in response to “destabilisation attempts” by the opposition, including a series of “strikes” ordered by the right-wing administration in Santa Cruz, Bolivia’s biggest city.
Santa Cruz’s governor is Luis Fernando Camacho, a Christian fundamentalist who helped storm the presidential palace during the military coup of 2019.
