ISRAEL announced the completion of a 20-foot high barbed wire fence around besieged Gaza today.
The 40-mile-long barrier includes radar systems, maritime sensors and a network of underground sensors to detect tunnelling.
It is partly a response to the “right of return” marches organised by Gaza from 2018, in which residents marched on the border to demand their return to lands they were expelled from by Israel during the 1948 Nakba, or “catastrophe.” Israel killed over 200 Palestinians during the border rallies. Construction of the new fence began three years ago.
