MOST of the charges against Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab have been dropped by a US court, with his defence lawyers saying there was a lack of evidence against him to proceed.
Prosecutors in the case however insisted that seven of the eight charges — including that of money laundering — were dropped to comply with assurances made to the government of Cape Verde when seeking his extradition.
Florida-based Judge Robert Scola agreed to the request made by the US Attorney General’s office, with media reporting that Mr Saab will be charged with “conspiracy to legitimise capital.”
