Unison director of organising KEVIN LUCAS explains the Organising to Win strategy, its successes to date and key tests on the union’s horizon
Origin and early years
Our history starts in October 1917 with the triumph of the Bolsheviks in Russia and the change that this important event brought to the working class around the world. The effect of this in Spain was the creation in 1920 of the Spanish Communist Party by members of the Socialist Youth who decided to join the Communist International.
Shortly after, in the context of an extraordinary congress of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (Partido Socialista Obrero Espanol — PSOE) of 1921, a sector of the party split, founding the Spanish Communist Workers Party. Both the Spanish Communist Party and the Spanish Communist Workers Party were combined and created the Communist Party of Spain (Partido Comunista de Espana — PCE) in November 1921.
