GMB and Uber strike a historic deal for 70,000 UK drivers
MICK RIX, who was lead negotiator in the new Uber union recognition agreement, hails a game-changing breakthrough for gig economy workers

THE GMB union and Uber announced yesterday a ground-breaking agreement whereby the union will be able to represent 70,000 drivers across the UK.

Recognition for the union builds upon changes made earlier this year which guaranteed all drivers the national living wage (although drivers can and do earn more), holiday pay and a pension plan.

Uber is the only major private hire operator to offer these protections to its workforce, and drivers can now earn with greater security, helping them to plan for their futures.
