THE United Nations has demanded the immediate release of Malian President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane after the pair were detained today by soldiers, prompting fears of a second coup in the space of a year.
They were taken to a military camp in Kati, about 10 miles from the capital Bamako, according to security sources.
Their detention came hours after the formation of a new government. The army is reportedly unhappy over the exclusion of two military commanders who led the coup last year against the former president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
