US ratchets up pressue on PKK as Turkish drone strikes pummel Sengal
Turkey's President Recep Erdogan inspects a military honour guard as he arrives to attend celebrations marking the anniversary of the 1071 battle of Manzikert, during which Turkish Seljuks beat Byzantine forces, gaining entry into Anatolia, in Malazgirt, eastern Turkey

WASHINGTON has ratcheted up pressure on the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) by insisting that Turkey should work with Iraqi forces to flush out militants, following further drone strikes on the disputed Sengal region.

US State Department spokesman Joey Hood said at a press briefing: "If you could have the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), the federal government in Baghdad and Turkey working together with advice and support from the US and other coalition countries, you could see where maybe a place like Sinjar (Sengal) could be cleared out of militias, including the PKK.”

He accused the PKK of blocking the safe return of thousands of Yazidis to the region, which was the site of a 2014 genocide at the hands of Isis.
