Syrian Kurds warn of jihadist threat in refugee camp

SYRIAN Kurds have appealed to the international community for support as they risk losing control of one of the country’s largest refugee camps to jihadist forces.

Commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazlum Kobane said there was a “serious risk” that Isis may re-establish itself in the al-Hol camp in northern Syria, which houses as many as 70,000 people.

“Right now, our people are able to guard it. But because we lack resources, Isis are regrouping and reorganising in the camp,” he said. “We can’t control them 100 per cent, and the situation is grave.”
