Nicaragua launches new housing programme for low-income families
President Daniel Ortega

NICARAGUA has embarked on a major housing development programme that will provide thousands of homes for the country’s low-income families.

President Daniel Ortega announced the project, under which 900,000 new units will be made available to those earning less than $400 (£300) a month, in bid to address the country’s housing deficit.

More than 900 applications have been made to the Bismarck Martinez Programme for a Safe and Dignified Home, and Vice-President Rosario Murillo explained that 50 properties would be made available in the first stage of the project.
