PEP GUARDIOLA said his side had an “important and brilliant victory” at Craven Cottage, which, with eight games left in the Premier League, allows City “to now focus on the Champions League.”

City play German side Borussia Moenchengladbach tomorrow in the one competition in which Guardiola’s record with City hasn’t been outstanding. 

The eye on the Champions League was evident in Guardiola’s selection: this was a City team without Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin de Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden or Raheem Sterling on the pitch. But their squad’s strength is why City have managed to win 22 of their past 23 games in all competitions.
