Grenfell fire inquiry: fire-safety consultant failed to read cladding documents

THE Grenfell Tower refurbishment’s chief fire-safety consultant ignored documents outlining proposed cladding and insulation materials, the inquiry into the disaster heard today.

Terry Ashton, of fire engineering firm Exova, did not read an early progress report by the project architects and failed even to mention plans to cover the 24-storey tower block in cladding in his first outline fire-safety report, published on October 31 2012.

He told the inquiry: “It was not on my mind at that time, I guess.
