Trade unions call on Patel to not criminalise Rojava visitors
Home Secretary Priti Patel talks to police officers at West Midlands Police Learning and Development Centre, Birmingham today

TRADE unionists have urged new Home Secretary Priti Patel to refrain from declaring North East Syria a “designated area” of terrorism.

Under the plans, British nationals and residents would face up to 10 years in prison, a fine, or both if they visited or stayed in the autonomous region that is commonly referred to as Rojava.

This would include family visitors and those that are engaged in journalism, research, medical assistance, defence of communities and trade union solidarity with the Kurdish-controlled region that was once overrun by the so-called Islamic State.
