Alvarez crushes the Krusher
Eleider Alvarez (right), of Colombia, connects a punch to Sergey Kovalev, of Russia, during the seventh round of their 175-pound boxing bout, yesterday

COLOMBIA’S Eleider Alvarez sent shockwaves through the light-heavyweight division yesterday with a brutal seventh-round stoppage of Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev.

The highly respected and feared Russian had been on the comeback trail after losing twice to pound-for-pound king Andre Ward, re-securing the WBO belt with two consecutive knockout wins, so not many expected Alvarez to rip the title from Sergey’s grasp.

“I just can’t describe how I feel,” Alvarez said. “I wanted to show him that I am strong, I have a good chin and am ready for big things.”
