CONTROVERSY ensued today as heavyweight David Allen signed to fight undefeated power-puncher Nick Webb this Saturday with only a week’s notice.
A series of unfortunate matches have plagued Allen’s fledgling career so far. With only 19 bouts and limited amateur experience, the Yorkshireman has already fought and lost to highly ranked Dillian Whyte, Cuban veteran Luis Ortiz and former Olympic gold medallist Tony Yoka.
Allen has earned a reputation as a likeable, comedic character with a granite chin and have-a-go attitude but unfortunately suffers from bouts of manic depression and is unable to maintain a healthy, athletic lifestyle, with rumours that Allen often trains himself in a homemade gym, with little input from top-level coaches.
The Khelif gender row shows no sign of being resolved to the satisfaction of anyone involved anytime soon, says boxing writer JOHN WIGHT
