McDonnell takes aim at Tory sluggishness to tackle money laundering
The Shadow Chancellor says Britain mustn't become ‘a safe haven for dirty money’

MINISTERS must stop dragging their heels and stop Britain being used as a “safe haven for dirty money,” John McDonnell said today.

The shadow chancellor urged the government to hurry up as it finally published a draft Registration of Overseas Properties Bill aimed at stopping foreign firms laundering cash by buying properties in Britain. 

It would force foreign companies that own properties in Britain to reveal their ultimate owners on the world’s first public register of overseas entities’ beneficial ownership.
