UN sends aid as peace talks begin
AID lorries entered the insurgent-occupied Damascus suburbs of East Ghouta yesterday following a ceasefire before today’s talks in Geneva.
Nine lorries carrying food and medicine from the UN and Syrian Red Crescent entered areas controlled by the Army of Islam, part of the Saudi-backed delegation at the talks.
UN envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said that Russia had informed him that the Syrian government had agreed to a ceasefire after weeks of fighting, during which extremists tried to lay siege to an army post there.
