Lib Dems fined £20k for dodgy accounts
Party referred to Met over missing £184,676

THE Lib Dems have been put under police investigation and slapped with a £20,000 fine for failing to properly declare their 2015 general election spending, the Election Commission announced yesterday.

The watchdog imposed its maximum fine and referred the matter to the Met Police to see if any criminal offence had been committed after finding that 307 payments totalling £184,676 were missing from the party’s spending return without a reasonable excuse.

Invoices for 122 of the payments were missing.
