Library workers are living in a culture of anxiety and fear in Britain — cuts to services regularly result in closures of branches, underfunding and loss of jobs.
Now there is the threat of “staffless libraries.” Around half of the jobs at Barnet libraries are currently at risk as the council plans to run library branches in this way and reduce opening hours by 75 per cent.
Furthermore, Barnet Council plans to hand over four library branches to be run by volunteer organisations.
