Albania: MPs shun debate on EU’s ‘reform’ demands

ALBANIAN opposition MPs boycotted a debate yesterday on “reforms” demanded by Brussels as a condition of EU membership.

The Democratic Party’s refusal to take part could jeopardise the legislation, which strips the government of its power to appoint judges.

The law would also see a new body set up to vet 800 sitting judges and prosecutors on their professional and personal integrity, including scrutinising property they own.
