STOCK MARKET speculators punished Britain yesterday for voting to leave the European Union, as a US analyst said the result could delay the secretive TTIP trade pact.
TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) has drawn fire from trade unions, health professionals, environmentalists and consumer groups, who warn that the pact’s Investor-State Dispute Settlement clauses will allow foreign firms to sue governments for policy decisions they say harm their profits — actual or future.
“This is yet another reason why TTIP will likely be postponed,” said Heather Conley, European programme director at Washington think-tank the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.
