France and Spain bury Sturgeon’s EU hopes

FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s quest to keep Scotland in the EU was dealt a blow yesterday after French President Francois Hollande ruled out talks.

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy also said Scotland would have to leave the EU with the rest of Britain.

Ms Sturgeon flew to Brussels yesterday to hold talks with European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker aimed at keeping Scotland in the European Union, after the country voted to Remain by 68 per cent in last week’s referendum.
