Six cases of sex assaults probed at Yarl’s Wood

GUARDS at the Yarl’s Wood immigration centre have been investigated regarding six sexual assaults against vulnerable women between 2013 and last year, the Home Office revealed yesterday.

The number of allegations against some members of staff at the centre, which is run by private security contractor Serco, is more than every other immigration detention centre over the same period.

Campaign groups said the claims are “really troubling” and that Immigration Minister James Brokenshire needs to dispel the centre’s “culture of secrecy.”
