LABOUR’S shadow chancellor John McDonnell has called Brexit an “enormous opportunity” to strengthen ordinary people’s rights with less interference from big business.
He told a meeting in central London yesterday that the EU is being run with corporations in mind and that pushing for a second referendum would go against the will of the British people.
He called on the government to balance public finances while allowing borrowing for investment, end cruel spending cuts in areas like disability benefits, invest in secure and well-paid jobs, reform the tax system and to lay out a clear Brexit plan.
In part IV of a serialisation of his new book, JOHN McINALLY tells how austerity minister Francis Maude’s attempt to destroy the PCS Civil Service union totally backfired
In the current climate, it is vital to bust the myths and put forward the case for a humane and decent social security system that supports people, argues FRAN HEATHCOTE
