Welsh trains halted by action over new terms
TRAINS in Wales were brought to a standstill yesterday by an all-out strike over management’s imposition of new terms and conditions.
Rail unions RMT and Aslef have accused Arriva Trains Wales of trying to “railroad through” contractual changes after bosses accepted a better pay deal for workers.
A war of words broke out last week after Aslef accused bosses of negotiating in bad faith and misleading the public by claiming that a new offer had been made to staff.
Arriva cancelled all its services and admitted that schedules would continue to be hit by an overtime ban until the row is resolved.
As workers formed picket lines yesterday, RMT leader Mick Cash said members were ““standing rock solid, shoulder to shoulder with Aslef colleagues” across Wales.
“This strike is about basic workplace justice and decent working conditions,” he added.
