THE Cuban flag was raised in the California state senate on Monday as diplomats from the Caribbean island nation were welcomed for the first time in more than 50 years.
“The cold war is over,” proclaimed state Senator Isadore Hall as he welcomed Cuban embassy First Secretary Miguel Fraga to the chamber floor.
“It is time to look forward and to look ahead to a future where Cuba is a partner, not an enemy to the United States,” Mr Hall said.
