Libya: Rebuff to UN envoy hits hopes of unity

THE UNITED NATIONS envoy to Libya was denied entry to Tripoli yesterday, hours after declaring a unity government was just days away from taking power.

Martin Kobler tweeted that he had cancelled yet another trip to the capital after the General National Congress (GNC) refused to let him in.

He wants the GNC and its Western-backed rival, the Benghazi-based Council of Deputies, to reconcile and accept the three-month-old, UN-backed unity government based in neighbouring Tunisia.
