TESTS due to be sat by primary school pupils in less than six weeks time should be cancelled, teachers demanded yesterday.
A new survey shows an extraordinary 86 per cent of National Union of Teachers members in favour of calling off baseline assessment, spelling and grammar tests Sats and phonics checks.
The study of over 5,000 teachers showed that 96 per cent felt the grammar tests would create too much stress for children. Nine in 10 also felt the tests for both seven and 11-year-olds were too difficult.
