TEACHERS rejected the government’s Prevent anti-radicalisation strategy yesterday, warning that it silences classroom conversation and damages community cohesion.

Since summer 2015 teachers have been required to refer pupils that they suspect of engaging in some sort of terrorist activity or radical behaviour to the police.

The strategy has been largely considered a failure by teaching leaders, partly due to the fact that about 90 per cent of referrals end in no action being taken.
