McDonnell lays into Osborne’s blunder

SHADOW chancellor John McDonnell accused George Osborne yesterday of building his recovery on sand after official figures showed he missed borrowing targets by almost £2 billion.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the Budget deficit stood at £74bn for the financial year ending in March.

However the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) had forecast borrowing to hit £72.2bn for 2015/16, leaving Mr Osborne’s borrowing target overshot by £1.8bn.
