Van Gaal had led the Reds to a 2-1 extra time victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday but within minutes, news had leaked of his impending sacking with Jose Mourinho set to take over.
When asked by a Sky Sports News reporter if he would stop to speak yesterday morning, Van Gaal refused and said as he walked away: “It’s over.”
