Poetry: The Hammer

The Hammer

To the inspiring
Joaquin Lavado, Quino

With the hammer he had found
he kept thinking about driving in a nail,
but instead of a nail to drive in with that hammer
he came across a screw;
with that screw he had found
he kept thinking about a screwdriver;
but instead of a screwdriver
to screw in that screw with
what he found was a spanner,
with the spanner he had come across,
he kept thinking about a wingnut;
but instead of a wingnut to adjust with that spanner
he finally found that nail he was looking for
and with that nail that he had found
he forgot all about the screw and the screwdriver,
the spanner and the wingnut,
and kept on thinking
about how to find that hammer
that he had once come across by accident?
But instead of a hammer
to hammer in that nail with,
he was confronted by a broker
who had already put a price on the hammer
and put it up for sale on the market.
