RED CROSS workers in South Sudan said yesterday that patients were dying as a result of the country’s civil war.

On the fourth anniversary of the newly independent state, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that fighting between the two factions vying for control of the country had driven out much-needed medical teams.

It said that on July 5 a hospital in Upper Nile state supported by an ICRC surgical team was caught in the crossfire during heavy fighting in Kodok.
