A POLITICAL heavyweight who warned Labour councils against buying into George Osborne’s devolution “deception” has been elected leader of general union GMB.
Members opted for current Yorkshire and north Derbyshire regional secretary Tim Roache over north-west and Irish chief Paul McCarthy.
Mr Roache, who is chairman of left-wing think tank Class and was said to be the “most political” of the four candidates who first put themselves forward, won 56.7 per cent of the vote.
