Education: Heads say Tory cuts to blame for recruitment problems

EIGHTY per cent of schools are finding it hard to recruit teachers in the wake of the government’s attacks on education, a survey of school heads found yesterday.

The main reason, given in just over half of the cases, was a shortage of applicants.

That’s not surprising, as the number of people who think that the number of teachers quitting the profession is a problem in their area has doubled since last year’s survey by head teachers’ union NAHT, from 15 to 30 per cent.
