Mathieu van der Poel crosses the finish line to win the men's elite race of the Milano-Sanremo one day cycling race (289 km) from Pavia, in Sanremo, Italy, March 22, 2025

CYCLING: Mathieu Van der Poel held off Filippo Ganna and world champion Tadej Pogacar in a sprint finish to win Saturday’s Milan-San Remo one-day race. 

Fred Wright was the highest-placed Briton in tenth, 43 seconds behind Van der Poel. 

Lorena Wiebes pipped Marianne Vos on the line to win the women’s race, with Noemi Ruegg third. Britain’s Pfeiffer Georgi finished 16th, two places ahead of compatriot Cat Ferguson.
