UNISON and RMT will launch a joint campaign to end outsourcing, the Morning Star can reveal.
Speaking at RMT’s AGM in Liverpool, Unison general secretary Andrea Egan made the announcement during a keynote speech calling on the trade movement to come together towards “one common goal.”
In a wide-ranging speech, the leader of the biggest public-sector union said: “I want us to work together across the union movement to make this a reality, to bring our services, bring our people back in-house.
“And let’s be clear, Labour isn’t going to be winning back support unless it can massively increase spending in public services and in communities, that we so desperately need, into council housing, in care, in schools, in education, in our NHS, and in transport.”
She said: “I’m looking forward to the joint working, working more closely with Eddie [Dempsey] in showing the wider movement what that fight back can look like.
“And that’ll start with a joint in-sourcing campaign.”
