JOHN MCDONNELL has written to Philip Hammond raising questions over Revenue & Customs failure to investigate the Tories’ biggest corporate donor Lycamobile over money-laundering allegations.
The shadow chancellor said that an investigation must be held into why HMRC turned down requests from the French authorities in 2017 to help their probe into the company.
HMRC has now admitted to Buzzfeed News reporters that it was “regrettable” that it had cited that the telecoms company had given more then £2 million to the Tories and had “significant resources at their disposal” in its explanation for not seeking a search warrant for Lycamobile’s London base.
